All cars over 3 years old are required by law to undergo an annual MOT checkup. We are more than happy to arrange your MOT for you, and are also authorised to carry out any repair work that may be necessary.

What is an MOT?
The MOT is a compulsory annual test for every vehicle over 3 years old. It checks that your car is roadworthy and complies with key safety and environmental requirements.

What are the key areas that are looked at during an MOT?
Number plate lights, horn, steering, suspension, wheels, brakes and tyres, windscreen, windscreen wipers and washer bottle, seats and seatbelts, fuel system Emissions, Bodywork, doors and mirrors.

When does my car need an MOT?
Once the car is 3 years old it will need an MOT every 12 months. The car can be brought in up to one month before the date of expiry as shown on the MOT certificate.

Why should I choose a Toyota Centre to carry out my MOT?
If your car does fail its MOT, your local Toyota Centre is best placed to help. The highly-trained Toyota technicians will be able to carry out any repairs using genuine Toyota parts and their intimate knowledge of your car.

What happens if my car fails the MOT?
If your car does fail the MOT, you will be issued with a VT30 certificate that states the reason for failure. You will also be eligible for a free re-test if the car is repaired at the same Toyota centre.

2018 May MOT Rules Changes
As of May 2018, various rules have been introduced or revised for MOT testing. These new rules include new defect types, stricter rules for diesel vehicles and new vehicle components that will be tested.

New Defect Categories
New classifications will be used to categorise any defects found during an MOT. These will mark the severity of the issue, which you will receive advice about.
These new categories are:
- Dangerous
- Major
- Minor

Diesel Particulate Filter
Diesel vehicles must now follow stricter rules in regards to their diesel particulate filter. Also known as a DPF, this filter catches and holds soot exhaust to lessen the diesel emissions.
Now, your diesel vehicle will receive a major fault if:
- Any smoke of any colour is emitted from the exhaust
- Evidence of DPF tampering is found

New Items To Be Checked In The MOT
The following items are now tested during the MOT:
- Underinflated tyres
- Contaminated brake fluid
- Environmental damaging fluid leaks
- Brake pads warning lights and missing brake pads and discs
- Reversing lights on vehicles first used from 1st September 2009
- Headlight washers on vehicles (if they have them) first used from 1st September 2009
- Daytime running lights on vehicles first used from 1st March 2018
