Here at SLM and Barnard & Brough, we are proud to play an important part in our surrounding communities.
The Sara Lee Trust has been providing specialist counselling and therapy care and support, for over 20 years, to local people who are living with cancer and other life-threatening conditions, along with their family and carers.
The Trust is also the dedicated provider of specialist counselling and complementary therapy services to patients of St Michael’s Hospice (St Leonards on Sea) and the Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital.
All the directors and staff at SLM feel very proud to be involved in raising money for such a great cause that helps our local community. For every new or used car that we sell across the group, we will make a donation to the trust. Our latest donation being £863 and so far, we have donated of over £26,000 to the charity.
We are delighted to announce our latest donation of £664 to Nelson's Journey. SLM have supported Nelson's Journey since 2018 and have donated over £8,000 by contributing £1 for every new and used car sold.
The charity's Chief Executive Simon Wright said: "The ongoing support of SLM throughout the pandemic has been tremendous and very gratefully received. Fundraising activities have been much more limited for us due to Covid restrictions, and yet the need for our services to bereaved children in the county has been high. This latest contribution, together with previously received donations from SLM, supports us in continuing to deliver our services to those who need us."
Nelson's Journey is the only charity in Norfolk to accept open referrals for specialist support to all children and young people who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life. The COVID-19 outbreak has really emphasised just how essential this support is for local families. The charity is receiving a greatly increased proportion of calls to their Support Line linked to deaths, both COVID and non-COVID, including suicides. The current restrictions have led them to develop and deliver new services provided by phone or video call so they can continue to support children and young people remotely.

Barnard & Brough proudly supports the St Peter & St James Hospice in providing life-changing care across the community.
At Barnard & Brough, we make an active effort to support local charities. One of these charities is the St Peter & St James Hospice in Sussex. We are both proud and humbled to be able to support the Hospice in providing vital services for the community.
The St Peter and St James Hospice provides compassionate care for people towards and at the end of their lives. They also support their families and friends through the challenges of bereavement and grief.
The Hospice organises a wide variety of events to raise money for their cause. The last 18 months have been challenging for the charity as most events scheduled for 2020 and the beginning of 2021 were cancelled.
However, as a result of restrictions easing, they have been able to facilitate physical fundraising events again in line with government guidelines; the Hospice is pleased to announce they are almost back to normal:
“This year our Open Garden events ran from June to August and although smaller than previous years it was lovely to meet our supporters again and be able to welcome them back to the Hospice. We are already planning for 2022 when we hope to have a full programme again that runs from April to September.”
Needless to say, SLM is incredibly proud to support such a worthy cause. Barnard & Brough donate £1 for every new and used car sold on an annual basis. In January we were able to donate £500.
The Sara Lee Trust Turns 25
The Sara Lee Trust celebrates its 25th Anniversary in 2021, and while this year has not been as we perhaps envisaged it, we are proud to say that The Trust has, for the most part, weathered the storm and will emerge strongly from this difficult time.
Despite the global pandemic, lockdowns and restrictions on meeting other people, The Trust has continued to support local people affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses. We have made changes to our ways of working that have made what we do even more relevant to those we support. The Trust’s online and telephone counselling service - which supported a record number of people in 2020 - will continue to help those people who prefer not to meet face to face, or who are too unwell to travel.
We are looking forward in this 25th year to resuming all of our services in full, and to developing new ideas which will continue to make a significant difference in the lives of many local people for years to come.
Rebuilding after the pandemic will not be easy, but we will continue to ensure that as many people as possible can continue to access our vital services. We hope that you will join us, and support us if you can, as we move forward to the future.
What would Sara Lee think now? Her mother Sally says: “I think that she would say thank you for listening and thank you to all the many people past and made my dream a reality.” please visit www.saraleetrust.org.
