Rye Community Garden 2020 Progress
The Rye Community Garden Project has been making good progress despite the many set backs this year has brought.

Work on the Rye Community Garden came to halt early in 2020 due to the lockdown, however since May some important jobs have been completed.
Dominic re-aligned the E-bed so that the path from the all-weather entrance path, to the central path, could be laid. Keepers Coppicing helped to erect new fencing on the slope down from the Love Lane gate, making the area much safer for those with mobility issues or vision problems.
Rob installed the neccessary posts in the re-vamped E-bed for 2 apple trees to be planted and eventually espaliered, creating a wind screen for the cultivation area. Mike Peplar began to cut down the overgrown willows up against the schools fencing.
More recently, Anna has brought the vegetable garden back to life with the help of some volunteers. As well as this, it is hoped the introduction of a new wild flower meadow, which sits between the apple trees and central path, will encourage greater biodiversity
Looking forward, it is hoped that the all-weather self-binding gravel on the entrance path and toilet path can be laid before winter. Other tasks on the list include:- Removal of the rubbish pile
- Disposal of brown waste
- Emptying the composters
- Central / link path development
- Completion of wood chip covering for vegetable garden walkways
- School boundary planting & willow management
Everyone at SLM Toyota would like to wish the team the best of luck with their ongoing work. We are all very proud to be supporting such an important community project. We're sure it is going to look fantastic once finished!
