Viva the Viva

  • “The new Vauxhall Viva is set to cost in the region of £7,500 when it goes on sale in the UK next summer,” reports Autocar. “It would put the Viva squarely between the likes of the Dacia Sandero and city cars such as the Hyundai i10. “Vauxhall’s new entry-level model has so far only been seen in preview images. The car, described as an ‘all-new five-door entry-level model’ will go on sale in the UK next summer, joining the ADAM and Corsa in Vauxhall’s revamped line-up. “Available with either four or five seats, the Viva shares its underpinnings with the next-generation Chevrolet Spark,” and appears to get the “same rounded front-end design as the ADAM and Corsa”. “Power for the new car is likely to come from the current ADAM line-up. That means 1.2 and 1.4-litre petrols, as well as the new 1.0-litre turbocharged engine which is available in the ADAM from October. That engine is available in 89bhp and 113bhp forms. “The Viva name means ‘long live’ in Latin, and pays homage to Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port facility, which built the original Viva from 1963 to 1979. The Viva is scheduled to receive its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year.”
