Ben Nash Tour Championships
  • Last week I was at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club for the end of season tour championships on the Tp Tour. The first bit of a winter chill was upon us as the 60 man strong field finished the season on the Tp Tour, it was a cloudy, windy drizzly day, water proofs and mittens were out of the bag for the first time this winter. Despite the average weather conditions the course was in fine shape, with the greens running at 10 on the stimp metre and the fairways like carpet, except for a few puddles here and there! I started off well with a birdie on the par 5 first hole, followed by a wedge shot into a foot on the second which saw me get to -2 in the first two holes. A good start! I dropped a shot on the tough par 3 third hole and pared the 4th. The next hole was a par 5, I drove the ball into the fairway bunker on the right had side, I had a tough shot into the green, I hit the shot of the season for me, a high fading rescue club from 230 yards into 10 feet, it got a lot better as I holed the putt for eagle which took me to -3. The short par 4 sixth hole hit another wedge shot very close which saw me progress to -4 through six holes. A dream start! Unfortunately I dropped a shot at the short 9th hole, walking past the score board I saw myself leading!! The back nine started off very solid, six pars followed, a few missed putts for birdie was the difference. I dropped two shots through 16 and 17, which were small 5 foot putts which was a disappointment. I finished -1 for the tournament in the cold windy conditions. Which put me in 8th spot? A good ending to the year, looking at the leader board when I came in I saw that -4 won the event. It was a good end to the season, a shame not to push on from the good start, but I feel that I'm only a few putts away from returning to winning ways.
