Business Watch is a partnership which was first set in motion last April, aiming to change the way partner agencies and the police work with businesses to make sure they feel valued and listened to. It helps everyone to promote healthy communication, and in turn reduce and prevent crime. The community provides regular monthly updates and meetings that explain what is happening in the business community, providing timely alerts as and when there is suspicious activity. Cllr Jeremy Birch, Leader of Hastings Borough Council, said: "The Business Watch initiative is a great example of what partnership working is all about. We have a larger than average percentage of manufacturing and industrial businesses, which provide 9.6% of our local jobs and produce items which really put Hastings on the map. It is important to Hastings Borough Council and our partners that we are able to safeguard these businesses and give them every opportunity to prosper." Katy Bourne, Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, explained: "The Hastings Business Watch scheme aims to help reduce the number of crimes affecting the business community by improving communication between business communities and Sussex Police to prevent and detect crime. This will enable businesses to work more effectively with the police and local authorities to create safe and stable business environments.” SLM Toyota Hastings are proud to announce that they have now joined the Hastings Business Watch and look forward to helping other local businesses around the county prosper.
