VXR8 Tourer 'most powerful' estate ever
  • Car magazine reports on the first pictures of the new VXR8 Tourer, Vauxhall’s “most powerful estate car ever”. “The VXR8 uses a previous-gen Chevrolet Corvette V8 engine to lug along the biggest loadspace in its class.” That power is sent to the rear wheels via a “six-speed manual or six-speed automatic”, with both options offering limited-slip differential for “easy tail-out antics”. “The VXR8 Tourer will hit 62mph in 4.9 seconds, and top out at an electronically restrained 155mph.” While rivals such as the Audi RS6 Avant and Mercedes E63 AMG set you back upwards of £80k, the Vauxhall costs £49,500, “and includes Vauxhall’s 100,000 mile warranty”. The Vauxhall might pip its German rivals “thanks to the sheer enormity of its boot”, says Car. “With all five seats in place, the Tourer offers 895 litres of space. Drop the rear row and you’ll unlock 2,000 litres of room. That’s 50 litres more than the E-class.” The rest of the cabin is shared with the regular VXR8, which means full leather as standard, sports seats up front and a five-inch infotainment screen.
