Toyota Tops BusinessCar Greenest Car Survey
  • The environmental performance of vehicles can be crucial to a company’s credibility, reputation and finances and is becoming increasingly important as the search for a greener world continues. The tax benefits to drivers in more economic cars are another incentive that interests companies and buyers alike. The EU has created emissions targets, which aim to reduce the overall release of harmful gases into the atmosphere. The aim is for there to be an average of 130g/km of C02 emissions per brand by 2015, dropping to 95g/km in 2020. With this in mind, for the sixth year running BusinessCar has looked at the top 20 feet manufacturers to assess their eco performance. After being knocked off the survey top spot last year, Toyota has once again been rated the BusinessCar’s greenest brand. The brand has achieved excellent emissions, being nearly 20% below its EU target. Toyota’s average C02 emissions in 2012 were 118km/km, reduced by over 5% from the year before. There is an excellent range and variety of low emission models, largely thanks to the implementation of hybrid technology. 51 versions rate below 120g/km, with nine below 95g/km. The vehicle with the lowest emissions is the Yaris Hyrbrid 1.5 VVTi, with impressive emissions of just 79g/km. Future plans to continue their eco effort includes the Toyota Auris Touring Sports Hybrid becoming the first hybrid estate, plus they will be making moves to cut emissions throughout UK dealerships.
