SLM Toyota Uckfield helps to bring the community together
  • SLM Toyota Uckfield are pleased to announce that they are supporting St Mary’s Horam after giving them a donation for £2,000 to allow them to enter the Greenpower series. The donation will allow St Mary’s Horam to purchase a kit car for the students to build and race, with the opportunity to race in the final at Goodwood Motor Circuit. The £2,000 donation will allow a chassis, running gear, batteries and power plant to be purchased. In the new academic year a team of students will be able to enrol on the team that will build the car, design and build an aerodynamic body for it and race it in competition against other schools in the region. Teams have to compete in at least one regional heat and finish in the top three to automatically qualify for the National Final held in October at Goodwood Motor Circuit. All teams competing will have the same motor and one pair of 12 volt batteries per race. During the race at least three team members must drive the car, and up to six further members can act as pit crew. Mel Ball, Marketing Manager for SLM Toyota Uckfield quotes, “We are delighted that we are able to deliver a positive and durable impact on the community and hopefully have some fun along the way with the students at St Mary’s.” "Without the generosity and support of SLM Toyota it is unlikely that the project could have become reality." Says Mr Charrett-Dykes, Design Technology Teacher. Already, one St Mary’s student has been developing designs for the new car - Joe Crebbin in Year 9 developed a 1/10th scale model for his DT Entry Level coursework. SLM Toyota would like to wish the team competing the best of luck, and we hope you do really well!
