SLM Toyota Hastings Presents Cheque To Rye Community Garden

SLM Toyota Hastings are very happy to be able to donate to the local community space in Rye.

  • Here at SLM Toyota Hastings we are extremely pleased to be able to present Rye Community Garden with a cheque for £2,000 to help with their latest upgrade project. The grant is thanks to Toyota GB's Fund For A Better Tomorrow scheme, which gives dealerships the opportunity to support worthy local charities.

The garden's plan is to build an all-weather path suitable for wheelchair access, as well as replace and extend the present woodchip path to improve site accessibility for everyone. The garden is also hoping to recruit a part-time paid co-ordinator to help spread the word about this brilliant community space and increase public enjoyment.

Pictured above (photo credit: Rye News) is Mark Raczowski, Toyota Sales Manager and Mel Ball, Marketing Manager handing over the cheque to Nigel Jennings and Dominic Manning, who both live in Love Lane where the garden is situated. After showing Mark and Mel around the garden, Dominic explained "We want to extend people’s knowledge and enjoyment of gardening and the community garden is a good point of entry for people who don’t have their own garden or allotment to engage with growing vegetables and fruit; and at the end you have produce that you can enjoy.

"At present, we get visits from local groups such as Age UK Healthy Living Group and the Brownies and we would like to make it more widely known and available. We have regular work sessions on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month between 2-4pm and on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays between 11am – 1pm. New volunteers are always welcome.”

About the donation, Mark commented "This fits well with our community grant objectives for environmental and public access projects and we will be interested to watch it progress."

Here at SLM Toyota Hastings we are all very pleased to be able to give back to such a brilliant local project and we are looking forward to seeing how the Rye Community Garden evolves in the future.
