Insignia ‘strikes gold’

The Vauxhall Insignia is “even better than before”, according to the Daily Record’s Maggie Barry. “Not only is it an even smoother looking car, you can now get a 2.0-litre diesel engine emitting only 99g/km of CO2,” she writes. The car is “very good-looking”, but Vauxhall’s “pulled an exceptional rabbit out of the hat” by expanding the engine range. “By offering real economies in both road tax and fuel, fleet managers are just going to love it. The look and performance will not go down too badly with independent drivers, either.” The Insignia is “exceedingly comfortable”, with “great support” for long-distance drivers, while the centre console and instrument cluster “look much simpler and more cutting edge”. Most impressively, the engines are completely unobtrusive. “They are incredibly quiet and infinitely smooth.” “The handling is quick and responsive, with first-class acceleration, and the car slips easily up and down the gears. “You cannot fault a 2.0-litre diesel with 138bhp that does 0-62mph in 10.5 seconds, yet has CO2 emissions of only 99g/km – meaning no road tax – and it manages an average 76.3mpg combined. “The 1.6-litre petrol turbo is equally enticing and expect a 4x4 Country Tourer estate in the next few months.
