Insignia Country Tourer 4x4 perfect for all conditions
  • Insignia Country Tourer 4x4 perfect for all conditions “With winter driving just around the corner and annual clamour for all-wheel drive vehicles approaching its peak, Vauxhall appears to have timed the launch of its 4x4 estate to perfection,” says the Telegraph’s Paul Hudson of the Insignia Country Tourer 4x4. Hudson notes the updated looks of new Insignia: “The facelift consists of a restyled grille, in line with the rest of the range, as well as off-road-style inserts in the bumpers and cladding around the wheelarches. The car sits 20mm higher than regular Insignias on 18in wheels.” The car’s interior has also been refreshed, and is now “bang up to date in terms of both appearance and functionality” with a “more modern and clearer” main instrument cluster and a centre console which“now has few buttons for a cleaner look and ease of operation. There’s also a new steering wheel with more controls, while the cloth and leather trims have a more upmarket look and feel”. Hudson says the fit and finish of the Insignia is “excellent” and is impressed by the car’s performance: “Once under way it’s smooth and refined, the excellent ride suggesting it would be a suitable long-distance companion... It’s comfortable and compliant but also composed on rutted B-roads.” He continues: “More relevant, given the onset of winter, is its confidence-inspiring stability on muddy and damp country roads. The 4x4 system works well on muddy lanes, as well as a few more challenging sections that Vauxhall provided, representing the sort of use the car is likely to receive.” Hudson concludes: “The Country Tourer 4x4 is an impressive effort. As ever, the only stumbling block is over badge snobbery but if you can overcome that the Vauxhall is every bit as capable as its German rivals for a lot less money.” (Link: Telegraph, 29 November)
