Ben's 'Top Tips' from the Tour
  • Hi I'm Ben Nash, professional touring pro from Cooden Beach Golf Club. I have been a professional for the last 3 years and have a few tips to improve your game and shoot better scores. From beginners to professionals I'm sure these tips will help you improve and more importantly help you enjoy the game of golf more than you have ever done before. Chip and Run You have missed the green, a simple chip and run will save par and preserve your momentum. Good shot selection around the green is vital. Firstly, assess the position of the ball; if the ball is sitting up on the grass you can be wider on the approach, whereas if the ball is sitting down your action will be steeper. Secondly, analyse how far the ball has to travel through the air, try and land the ball onto the green, assisting with the positioning of the ball on the approach. Next you need to select a club, which will give the amount of lift needed to get onto the green. An important technical point is to maintain a high hand position and place your hands in a forward position, this will you space during impact. To make the shot feel like a putt, maintain a smooth controlled rocking motion from your shoulders, limiting your body movement. Have a go and I'm sure this will help improve your chip and run shots.
