Ampera is the Efficiency King

  • “When we first tested the Ampera in April it beat rivals Audi A4, Nissan Leaf and Lexus CT200h, and on paper it compares favourably with the Prius Plug-in, reports Auto Express. Its Voltec drive system gives “maximum emissions range” so “claims some amazing figures”. “It looks suitably futuristic too, with styling that seems ahead of its time... as it sits lower than the Prius it has a more dynamic stance”. Inside, “modern touches make it feel very hi-tech...” and it “has lots of kit”. On batteries alone, “progress is smooth and the cushion of the petrol range means you can exploit the instant torque”, and Sport mode helps make the Ampera “over a second quicker than the Prius”. It also says: “Refinement is exceptional, it grips better than the Prius and there is less dive and body roll through corners. The biggest difference is the more useful range: as long as you charge it once a day, you could go months between filling.” James Disdale says: “Few cars can match the Ampera’s unique abilities. Our car went nearly two months and 1700 miles without a fill up.” In summary: “For commuters who occasionally stray further afield, the Ampera is a compelling alternative and claims a deserved win. It delivers low running costs the Prius can’t match.” (Source: Auto Express, 29 August)
