CUPRA and Padel: Why Surrey's Fastest-Growing Sport Has a CUPRA Badge On It

If you've driven past a sports club in Surrey lately, you've probably spotted them: glass-walled courts, the unmistakable thwack of a padel ball, and players of every age and ability having a brilliant time. Padel is the fastest-growing sport in Britain, and few brands have backed it as passionately as CUPRA. Here at CUPRA Woking, we're big fans too.

• What is padel?

  Padel is a racket sport that blends tennis and squash. It's played in doubles on a court about a third the size of a tennis court, surrounded by glass and mesh walls that stay in play. The ball can bounce off the walls, which makes rallies longer, tactics smarter and the whole game wonderfully social.

  The sport began in Acapulco, Mexico, in 1969, when Enrique Corcuera built a walled court at his home. It took off in Spain and South America, and in the last few years it has exploded across the UK. According to LTA Padel, Britain had around 15,000 players in 2019 and now has more than a million, with over 1,800 courts across 550+ venues.

  It's easy to pick up, quick to get competitive and genuinely fun from your very first game, which is why so many people around Woking, Weybridge and Guildford are giving it a go.

  CUPRA first stepped onto the padel court in 2019, and the brand has been one of the sport's biggest champions ever since. Born in Barcelona, CUPRA sees padel as a natural match: it's bold, energetic, a little unconventional and brings people together.   CUPRA's involvement in padel today includes:

  • Premier Padel – CUPRA is a major partner of the official professional world tour, where the planet's best players compete.
  • The International Padel Federation (FIP) – including the CUPRA FIP Tour, the international circuit that helps rising players climb towards the top level.
  • The CUPRA Padel Tribe – a team of world-class professional players who act as CUPRA brand ambassadors.
  • LTA Padel – in September 2026, CUPRA became the Official Automotive Partner of LTA Padel, the sport's governing body in Great Britain.

• CUPRA and padel in the UK

  CUPRA's UK commitment to padel is growing fast. The new multi-year partnership with LTA Padel makes CUPRA the title partner of the CUPRA LTA Padel National League, Britain's biggest team-based padel competition. It also supports the LTA Padel British Tour, the LTA Padel National Championships and Great Britain's national padel teams.

  Before that, CUPRA UK partnered with the Pro Am Padel Tour from 2024, pairing top British professionals with famous faces from sport and entertainment at events across the country. CUPRA has also supported events including the first London Premier Padel P1, bringing world-class padel to UK fans.

  We've seen the excitement first-hand. On 14th October 2025, members of our CUPRA Woking team were invited to the Padium in Canary Wharf for the Pro Am Padel Tour Grand Finale. Teams captained by Joleon Lescott, Dion Dublin and Jason Manford played alongside top British pros, with plenty of familiar faces from TV on court. Team Lescott took the title, winning the £11,500 Captain's Fund for the burns unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

• Padel close to home: CUPRA Woking and EzeePadel Weybridge

  We love seeing padel thrive on our doorstep. In 2025, CUPRA Woking was proud to partner with EzeePadel Weybridge, based at Bannatyne Spa Weybridge. Weybridge was the first club in Surrey to install a padel court, back in 2015, and it remains a fantastic place to play, take lessons and join social sessions. Our 2025 partnership has now come to an end, but our enthusiasm for padel hasn't. We're always keen to support the sport locally, and we'd love to hear from Surrey clubs and players who share CUPRA's passion for the game.
