Pod Point and Lidl Team Up to Offer EV Rapid Charging

Pod Point and Lidl are offering free EV rapid charging at their stores.

  • Lidl has partnered with Pod Point to provide free rapid charging points at the company’s supermarkets while customers shop. The deal will see 40 new rapid chargers installed across the UK.

The rapid charge points are free and will be able to charge AC and DC at the same time up to 53kW, meaning the Nissan LEAF could charge by 80% in just half an hour. Each charging station will have its own dedicated bay and will be clearly signposted.

Lidl customers will be able to find the charging points with Pod Point’s live availability map.

Erik Fairbairn, CEO of Pod Point has commented: “We’re excited to be working with Lidl to ensure its customers get a faster and better charging service.

"Our partnership with Lidl is also an important element in the wider rollout of the Open Charge Network, and a significant step towards our target of putting a Pod Point everywhere people park for an hour or more by 2020.”

There are currently no confirmed locations for these upcoming points, however the Lidl in Malden, Essex has become the first location to have one installed.
